The best books of 2019.

I love writing and saying 2020. TWENTY-TWENTY! Doesn’t it look and sound awesome?

It’s not just the end of the year, it’s the end of a decade, and the end of a major cycle.

We are coming to the end of the Chinese zodiac — the 12-year cycle ends soon (bye, pleasure Pig), and we get to start an entirely new cycle (huzzah, power Rat) next February.

I am excited to start this new year, decade, and cycle, all at the same time.

But before we start a new everything, here’s a round-up of my favourite reads from 2019.

Whose Story Is This? by Rebecca Solnit

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

This Place: 150 Years Retold, by HighWater Press

Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport

Trickster Drift by Eden Robinson

Pleasure Activism by Adrienne Maree Brown

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell

Girls Need Not Apply by Kelly S.Thompson

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Dutch House by Ann Patchett

We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra

How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan

OK here I go AGAIN—It’s already going into March 2020 and I have written NADA—the last year and a half worked on a book (that I actually had worked on for the previous 10 years), in any case it looks like it actually might be published. Until it is actually out there (on Amazon) I am saying nothing more about that I am writing because I find myself coming back to your site every few months. I had gotten back on track with you giving daily prompts then I stopped then started then stopped—- I swear I am going to start writing again—little tiny itty bitty short stories. Where is this going you are wondering? I just wanted to thank you and the next time I have a spare $275 I plan to sign up for your writing class.
