Our scholarships are open to all writers, worldwide. The only requirements are a strong grasp of the English language and a keen desire to develop creative writing skills in our various writing programs and spaces.
Preference will be given to those in financial need who self-identify with racialized communities, LGBTQIA+ communities, those with a disability/disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
We currently offer scholarships for:
We are committed to dismantling systems of oppression, including white supremacy and patriarchy, which have caused lasting damage through generations. We know this requires a lifelong commitment to healing and change.
Part of this commitment includes centring the works of racialized, LGBTQIA2S+, disabled writers, and other underrepresented groups within our courses, readings, and overall programming; and diversifying our faculty and students to create a community that is more representative of the inclusive culture we are trying to foster.
The writing and publishing industry has a huge diversity problem:
Editors are 80% white, 76% straight, and 88% non-disabled
Sales reps are 81% white, 86% straight, 92% non-disabled
Agents are 80% white, 76% straight, and 91% non-disabled
Book reviewers are 80% white, 76% straight, and 81% non-disabled

It’s obvious that white, straight, able writers have an advantage in the current system. It’s not fair. It’s a system of oppression.
We want to elevate writers who don’t have the same advantages. Our scholarship offering is part of our ongoing effort to create a space of belonging.
We invite you to join us in dismantling systems of oppression, and transforming the culture of our industry.
Please read further about our ethics. If you have any questions about how you can support our writers, please send us an email at support@sarahselecky.com.
Thank you so much for your generosity.
For every 10 people in our membership community, Centered, we are able to offer partial scholarships for 1/4 of the regular membership fee. In addition, we have supporting members who are also contributing to a fund that allows us to give away full 6-month scholarships.
If you are able, please amplify our efforts by supporting our scholarship program in one of two ways:
All donations will be kept in a fund until a 6-month scholarship can be offered, at which point we will reach out to our scholarship applicants to tell them the good news!
