Unearthing our creative treasure means getting a little dirty.

So much of our potential lies hidden in the parts we’ve buried.

When we have the courage to face those parts of ourselves, we get to see how much bigger we are.

We are, in fact, big enough to contain a whole story. We can hold all of it! The triumphs and failures, temptations and false starts, wins and losses, turning points and resolutions. All of these ups and downs combined add up to a life. Owning all of it is the truth.

We are not just the shiny leaves of a cute topiary. No matter how we shape ourselves above the ground, we are also those roots tangled in the muck. Unearthing our potential can be heavy, grimy work. And so worth it.

In the spirit of revealing what’s been buried and hidden, I’ve uncovered a few gems from my archive to support your writing during the shadow season.

Even with everything that’s changed over the years, these essays on themes of conflict, jealousy, fear, and doubt are just as relevant today as they were when I first wrote them.
